Police issued a community alert today warning of a series of strong-arm robberies on the Northwest Side in the city’s Jefferson Park neighborhood.
Police said a man approaches women on the sidewalk or in the alley and robs them of their purses, money and cell phones.
Most of the robberies have happened during the afternoon and evening hours, police said.
The robberies have occurred on the 5300 and 5800 blocks of West Belmont Avenue, the 5400 and 5500 blocks of West School Street, the 3100 block of North Lotus Avenue, the 5700 block of West Melrose Street, the 5600 block of West Cornelia Avenue, and the 4700 block of North Marmora Avenue.
Police described the man as white or Hispanic, between the ages of 20 to 35, about 5 feet 8 inches to 6 feet tall and weighing between 145 and 175 pounds.
The robber was last seen wearing a black or brown hooded sweat shirt, a black or brown jacket and a black or brown ski or skull-type cap.
Anyone with information about the identity or whereabouts of the robber should contact Grand Central Area detectives at 312-746-8362

Depending on the block in question, these crimes occurred in Jefferson Park or Portage Park or Belmont-Cragin.
A more accurate Chicago Tribune headline should have read as:
Police Warn of Robberies in Three Northwest Neighborhoods.
Northwest = Northwest Side
Woah! I'm really enjoying the template/theme of this site. It's simple, yet effective.
A lot of times it's hard to get that "perfect balance" between usability and appearance. I must say you've done a excellent job with this.
In addition, the blog loads super fast for me on Opera.
Superb Blog!
