The photo, released in a community alert by Harrison Area detectives, shows a man who police belive fatally shot Lyn Ward as she worked behind the counter of the Ukrainian Village neighborhood shop in the 1100 block of North Western Avenue last Thursday night.
Ward ran toward the back and the man fired from a chrome revolver, striking her in the neck, police said. The robber then ordered another employee to open the cash register, grabbed cash and ran south on Western Avenue, police said.
Ward, 57, was taken in “extremely critical" condition to Stroger Hospital and died the next morning, officials said.
The robber is described as an African American man, 30 to 40 years old, between 5-foot-7 and 5-foot-9-inches tall, with a medium build and complexion.
He was wearing a dark-colored knit ski hat, a tan-colored three-quarter length parka with a fur-trimmed hood, light-colored blue jeans and white gym shoes with black trim.
