He was killed on the 1900 block of South Lawndale Avenue the Little Village neighborhood on the West Side.
Police said he stepped outside about 1 a.m. He bumped into his assailant when he went back inside to get the people he went to the party with.
The two briefly exchanged words before the second man pulled out a gun and opened fire, police said, hitting the man in the leg and chest.
Police said the wounded man, who hasn't yet been identified by the Cook medical examiner's office, staggered onto the sidewalk outside before he collapsed.
He was found unresponsive just after 1 a.m..
The shooter fled on foot, police said. Nobody is in custody.
