Man grabs boy in abduction attempt

A man grabbed a 9-year-old boy in a bear hug while trying to abduct him this week on the Southeast Side, police said today, but the child was able to break free and flee.
The attack took place about 2:30 p.m. Tuesday on the 9900 block of South Avenue H, police said in a community alert.
The boy was walking when the man grabbed him from behind in a bear hug and attempted to pull him toward him, police said. The boy was able to break free and ran westbound on 99th Street, while the attacker walked away southbound on Avenue H.
Police released a sketch of the suspect and described him as a white Hispanic man about 40, 5-foot-11 and 200 pounds, with brown eyes, black hair, and olive complexion and a chubby build.
The man was clean-shaven with pock marks or bumps on his face, including a bump just below the bridge of his nose, police said.
He was wearing a red, white and blue zippered jacket with angled stripes, over a white hooded sweatshirt, police said in the community alert.
