3 trying to foil car theft shot, 4 held for questioning

Four people were being questioned this morning after three employees of a Noble Square neighborhood restaurant were shot and seriously wounded tonight when they apparently tried to stop the theft of another employee's car parked behind the store.
At 8:15 p.m., two men and a woman were shot in the 1400 block of West Cortez Street.
Paramedics responded to the nearby address of 1072 N. Milwaukee Ave. for the shooting and took three people to hospitals in serious condition.
The two men, ages 21 and 33, were shot in the leg. The younger of the two is in stable condition at Northwestern Memorial Hospital and the other in stable condition atJohn H. Stroger, Jr. Hospital of Cook County.
The woman, 21, was shot in the leg and ankle and taken in stable condition to Stroger Hospital.
The three victims worked at the Frontier Restaurant at the Milwaukee Avenue address and saw someone trying to steal a car from the alley behind the establishment when they were wounded.
The restaurant's owner said the victims are a bartender, cook and manager. He said another cook had walked out the rear of the restaurant and saw a group of four or five people in his car, apparently trying to steal it from where it was parked in the alley.
The cook ran back inside the restaurant to get help, and a few people from inside went into the back alley, the owner said.
Police could not immediately confirm all the details provided by the owner, but said the three victims were expected to survive.
