Police said the suspects wanted to resell the handguns in Chicago’s Englewood neighborhood as well as the suburbs.
Police said the weapons were stolen during a burglary early Sunday at the Maxon Shooters Supplies and Indoor Range in Des Plaines.
Dozens of the stolen guns had been recovered, police said, but they could not provide a precise number.
Trevell Allen, 17, of Blue Island, and Emmanuel Warner, 17, of Dolton, were charged with one count each of aggravated possession of multiple stolen firearms. Brandon McGee, 18, of Chicago, was charged with seven counts of unlawful sale of a firearm, while Darrell Holmes, 19, of Blue Island, was charged with one count of possession of a stolen firearm.
After the gun shop identified the weapons stolen during the burglary, Chicago police officers from the organized crime division learned the firearms may have been smuggled to the Englewood neighborhood.
Officers executed a search warrant in the 6200 block of South Morgan Street and recovered 29 handguns, police said. Further investigation led officers to additional locations on the South Side and south suburbs, where 29 other guns were recovered, police said. The “majority” of those guns had been taken during the gun shop burglary.
Police were still trying to locate most of the stolen guns
