Police warn of armed robberies on South Side

Police issued a community alert today about a series of armed robberies in the Greater Grand Crossing and Park Manor neighborhoods on the city's South Side.

Police said the robbers have approached victims on foot between the 7100 and 7500 South blocks of State Street and Vernon Avenue. Sometimes the victims were walking and sometimes getting into their cars, police said. The attacks took place at different times of the day.
In the robberies, one of the perpetrators typically pulled out a handgun and ordered victims to "give me everything you got" or used similar language.
In several of the robberies the robbers searched victims' pockets, taking anything of value, including car keys. They then stole the vehicles, police said.
Police described the robbers as male blacks, between the ages of 17 to 30, about 5-feet-5 to 6 feet and weighing between 120 to 200 pounds.
