A construction worker at a South Side demolition site was killed this morning when a piece of a concrete beam fell on him.
Paramedics and police were called shortly before 9 a.m. to 11 E. 79th Street, officials said. The victim, a man in his 40s, had been working on the top floor of the three-story building when the beam and part of the ceiling fell on him.
Another man was working with him but was not injured.
The Occupational Safety and Health Administration is investigating.
The victim lived in Chicago and was working for Heneghan Wrecking.
UPDATE: The Cook County medical examiner's office identified the man as Miguel Caltzontzin, 39, of the 2400 block of South Sawyer Avenue
