Two car salesmen were carjacked last month on the South Side and police are warning businesses to be on high alert.
The first vehicular hijacking happened Oct. 10 in the 6800 block of South Oakley Avenue at 1:20 p.m. when a man asked an auto dealership staffer if he could take a vehicle for test drive, according to a Business Alert issued by the Chicago Lawn police district.
But during the test drive, the man pulled out a handgun and forced the 50-year-old worker out of the vehicle before fleeing with it, the alert said.
A similar attack occurred Oct. 21 at 2:15 p.m. in the 5600 block of South Western Avenue when a suspect asked a 38-year-old man who works for a different dealership if he could take a vehicle for spin. At some point during the test drive, two additional suspects entered the vehicle and the worker was forced out while the three made off with the car, the alert said.
The men are described as being between 20 and 30 years old, 5-foot-6 to 5-foot-8 and 200 pounds. One has dreadlocks and the others have short hair.
Police are urging auto dealership employees to always request driver’s licenses before allowing a test drive and always be aware of their surroundings, according to the alert
