Chicago police are warning South Side residents of a couple ruse burglaries last month that apparently targeted senior citizens.
On September 14 at approximately 3:15 p.m. near 82nd Street and Perry Avenue, a burglary occurred in which the 65-year-old victim was approached by an offender looking to do yard work, an alert from Calumet Area detectives said. While distracted, two other offenders entered the victim’s home and stole jewelry from the victim.
That same day, about 6 p.m. near 88th Street and Indiana Avenue, a home invasion occurred in which the offender told the 92-year-old victim that he was there to fix the hot water heater. The offender, along with an accomplice, pushed their way into the residence and stole money, the alert said.
The offenders in both incidents were described as male Hispanics. Additionally, the second offender was noted to have a large scar on his face.
The offenders were observed entering a white van, police said.
Residents are reminded to be aware of this situation and alert neighbors in the area about these crimes, check on elderly neighbors to make sure they are safe, and call 911 to report any suspicious person(s) or activity.
If anyone has information about these crimes they are asked to call Calumet Area detectives, at (312) 747-8273
