Two men were charged with robbing an off-duty Chicago police officer and then robbing another man at gunpoint and making off with that man's car on Wednesday.
Van Robinson, 17, of the 100 block of East 74th Street was charged with aggravated vehicular
highjacking while armed with a firearm and two counts of armed robbery with a firearm.
Darrell Magee, 20, of the 6800 block of South Indiana Avenue was charged with aggravated vehicular highjacking with a firearm and two counts of armed robbery with a firearm. He was also issued citations for various traffic violations including disobeying a red traffic light and traveling in the wrong direction down a one-way street.
An off duty-officer was robbed at about 1 a.m. in the 9700 block of South Wentworth Avenue as he was walking home when at least two men approached him.
One of the men, wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt, pulled a chrome .357 Magnum handgun and demanded cash.
The men got away with the officer's wallet and five-point star badge, but not his service weapon.
At about 3 a.m., police on patrol near the 5500 block of South Western Avenue spotted a vehicle which had been stolen in the 7100 block of South Harvard Avenue. In that incident, a 45-year-old man said he was robbed and his car was taken at gunpoint.
After spotting the car, police tried unsuccessfully to stop it and eventually it crashed near the 5700 block of South Claremont Avenue, police . The men in the car fled on foot and were eventually caught after a brief foot chase as the tried to flee down an alley, police said. The men were arrested and a handgun was recovered.
Police also retrieved a cell phone stolen from the officer. The men were identified and charged.
Robinson and Magee were ordered held on $250,000 bond each
