Two people were shot in an apparent home invasion at about 10 p.m. Friday night in the South Shore neighborhood.
Police said two or three men kicked in the door and demanded money from the two victims, who didn't have anything to give up, before shooting them.
A 50-year-old man, Isaac Dotson, died after being shot in his abdomen and was found dead at the scene, according to authorities.
He was shot first and lived in the apartment in the 7800 block of South Yates Boulevard.
The second victim, a 39-year-old man, struggled with the shooter who then shot him in the back.
The attackers fled and the victim staggered into the street, police said, where he flagged down police that responded to the call.
He was transported in serious-to-critical condition to Northwestern Memorial Hospital. Police said the second victim is a 29-year-old man.
Police said suspected drug activity in the area may be related to the home invasion but drugs and money weren't found at the scene
