A 51-year-old man was charged today with robbing a North Side bank and is suspected in at least one other heist in August.
James D. Erwin was charged in a federal criminal complaint with Thursday's robbery of the Lakeside Bank at 2800 North Ashland Avenue, during which he used a screwdriver to stab a security guard who had followed him out of the building and tried to detain him.
Chicago police arrived during the struggle and were able to arrest Erwin without further injury, and the guard was treated at the scene and did not require hospitalization.
An FBI news release said Erwin also is suspected in, but not charged, in an Aug. 2 robbery of a Bank of America branch at 3215 N. Lincoln Ave.
