Two carjacking suspects being chased by police were arrested Monday evening after they crashed at a Southwest Side Marquette Park intersection, hitting another vehicle and bungling traffic signals.
Terrance Williams, 22, of the 2400 block of West 58th Street and Donte Ferguson, 23, of the 10200 block of South Normal Avenue, were charged with aggravated vehicular hijacking,. Ferguson was also charged with aggravated unlawful use of a weapon following the incident that started shortly before 9:30 p.m. near Homan Avenue and 53rd Street.
Williams and Ferguson allegedly approached a man on the street and robbed him of his keys at gunpoint.
The car owner was not injured, but the suspects took his vehicle. Officers in the area spotted the car minutes after the incident was reported, and pursued the vehicle down Kedzie Avenue.
The chase came to an end at Kedzie Avenue and 67th Street when the vehicle crashed into another car, which hit at least one pole and some other parked cars.
The crashed also knocked down a traffic control signal box
Officers chased down and arrested the two suspects when they fled the vehicle after the crash
