A man was shot on the State Street bridge over the Chicago River at the height of the evening rush hour.
The man was shot in the head just after 5 p.m.. He was taken to the Hospital in serious-to-critical condition.
Witnesses told police the gunman approached the victim from behind and fired, then fled down State as people came to the victim's aid. Police say the gunman was last seen running south on State, carrying a chrome handgun, and may have run into the Randolph station for Metra Electric and South Shore lines.
The gunman was described as black, thin build, with a short afro haircut, wearing a light blue dress shirt with the sleeves rolled up and black shorts. He may also be wearing a rain coat. Police say they found a shell casing and a backpack believed to belong to the shooter.
