A clash between rival West Side gangs Thursday evening led to the slaying of one of their members. A suspect was in custody.
Robert Solomon, 33, of the 400 block of Forest Avenue in Aurora, was shot in the chest and killed on the 4300 block of West Dickens Street in Chicago's Hermosa neighborhood about 8:30 p.m..
Solomon was with other members of the Latin Eagles street gang who were exchanging gang slogans with members of a rival gang, Kubiak said. One of those rival gang members took out a handgun and shot Solomon in the chest, she said. His alleged assailant was in custody.
Solomon has a long record of drug and weapons arrests, according to records. He most recently was convictetd on narcotics charges in 2005, and in 1998 was convicted of murder/intent to kill and sentenced to eight years.
