A motorist died in a crash early this morning in the Garfield Ridge area.
At 2:49 a.m., a man driving a white Ford Taurus crashed in the 4000 block of South Cicero Avenue, police said.
The man was identified as Pipers Wells, 33, of the 1000 block of North Massasoit Avenue, according to the Cook County medical examiner's office.
Witnesses say they saw the man travelling as fast as 100 mph before veering off the side of the road and crashing, police said.
He struck a bridge and flipped the car, coming to rest between the bridge and a rail, said police News Affairs Officer John Mirabelli.
Someone was seen fleeing the scene, Mirabelli said, citing preliminary information.
