A Lombard man was found slain with an apparent gunshot wound to the head this afternoon in the Lawndale neighborhood on the West Side.
David Cardine, 21, of the 0-99 block of North Chase Avenue was pronounced dead on the scene, according to a spokesman for the Cook County medical examiner's office.
Preliminary reports said Cardine was discovered dead about 2:30 p.m. inside a van stopped on the 1300 block of South Independence Boulevard, according to Police News Affairs Officer Dan O'Brien, and detectives have begun a homicide investigation.
Cardine suffered an apparent gunshot wound to his head, according to the medical examiner's office, although an autopsy had not yet been performed.
As of 7:30 p.m., no one was in custody for the slaying. Harrison Area detectives were investigating.
