Bails set for teens charged with hate crime in harassment at train station (Don't you dummies know you can commit hate crimes against white people and get away with it, not gay people?)

Hate crime and battery charges have been filed against three teens accused of hurling anti-gay insults at a man and threatening him with a knife in a confrontation that began in a bathroom at Chicago’s Millennium station.

Mack Heard, 17, and Kendrick L. Towner, 18, both of Richton Park, were ordered held in lieu of $50,000 bail each when they appeared today before Judge Maria Kuriakos Ciesil on a felony hate crime charge and a misdemeanor count of aggravated battery in a public place.

The third teen, a 14-year-old boy, was cited in a juvenile petition with the same offenses. He was not identified because of his age.

The incident began just before 8 p.m. Thursday in the train station in the 100 block of North Michigan Avenue.

The teens approached the 23-year-old south suburban man in a restroom and started making fun of his hair, threatening him and hurling anti-gay comments, according to an arrest report.

The 14-year-old boy allegedly pulled out a pocket knife and said, “You don’t want to (expletive) with us -– we Four Corner Hustlers,” the report states.

The victim said he didn’t want any trouble, but when he pushed past the defendants, they followed him out onto Michigan Avenue and continued to yell insults and threats, according to the report. The victim called 911 after he saw Towner drop his book bag and walk toward him with his fists clenched.

Responding officers issued a radio flash message describing the suspects, who were arrested while walking in the 600 block of North Michigan Avenue, the report states.

A hate crime is a Class 4 felony punishable upon conviction by up to 3 years in prison
