woman died early this morning after being struck by a Metra train on the Northwest Side, authorities said.
The woman, believed to be 20, was struck about 12:55 a.m. by Milwaukee District North Line train No. 2159, which left Union Station as the last train of the night at 12:25 a.m., said Tom Miller, a spokesman for Metra.
The woman, died on-scene near 5900 North Central Avenue, according to the Cook County medical examiner's office.
The train's engineer saw something between the rails on the track, blew the train's horn and initiated emergency braking but was unable to stop, Miler said
