A man was hospitalized when his Jeep smashed into a carnival ride in the Gresham neighborhood this morning, police said.
The accident happened at about 6:20 a.m. on the 11600 block of South Marshfield, said Chicago Police News Affairs Officer John Mirabelli. The carnival was not operating at the time.
The 24-year-old driver had just exited I-57 at the 119 Street exit and was driving his 1998 Jeep Wrangler on Marshfield when he lost control of his vehicle and crossed a concrete median, said Mirabelli.
After the jeep left the road, it jumped a curb and struck a carnival ride for a temporary carnival which had been set up at that location, said Mirabelli.
The man had to be extricated from his vehicle and was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in serious condition, Mirabelli said.
The man, whose name was not available, was ticketed for negligent driving, Mirabelli said. No one else was injured.
