A woman’s father and uncle saved her from being raped and possibly killed in her West Lawn apartment Saturday, Cook County prosecutors said.
The 24-year-old victim’s cried out for help as David Belardo, 19, allegedly tried to force her to have sex and tried to smother her with a bed sheet in her basement apartment in the 6200 block of South Kilbourn Avenue, prosecutors said today in bond court.
Belardo knocked on the woman’s door around midnight, using a high-pitched voice to pose as the woman’s sister, prosecutors said. When she opened the door, she found a pant-less Belardo, who forced his way into the apartment and tried to pull her pants off.
Belardo and the woman had mutual friends, court records state.
The woman lost consciousness but her father and uncle heard her earlier cries and entered the apartment and saw Belardo on top of the woman. Belardo was unconscious when police arrived, according to a police.
Belardo was ordered held on $750,000 bond on charges of attempted murder, attempted criminal sexual assault and home invasion.
Belardo was sentenced to 24 months probation for for a 2010 Hate Crime conviction when he spray painted racial epithets on garage doors on the south side, police said
