Chicago woman is expected in bond court today after being charged with drunk driving and reckless homicide for causing a Memorial Day crash that killed a toddler and injured three other children on the Dan Ryan Expressway, officials said.
Joannie Pittman, 47, of the 5200 block of South Paulina Street, was charged with aggravated DUI for an accident causing death and reckless homicide, said Tandra Simonton, a spokeswoman for the Cook County state's attorney's office.
The single car crash closed the expressway which was jammed with holiday traffic for about two hours on Monday night.
Killed in the crash was 11-month-old Everett Bramlett, according to the Cook County medical examiner's office. He was pronounced dead at 8:25 p.m. at the scene. Everett would have turned a year old next week, the office said.
Four women and four children were southbound in the green 1993 two-door Oldsmobile Cutlass on Interstate 90/94 when the Pittman lost control and struck a guard rail, police said, citing preliminary reports. The crash injured seven people in addition to the dead boy.
Three of the four children were ejected from the car. None of them was in a child restraint or wearing a seat belt, police said
