The CTA has cut 26 manager-level jobs and 28 other non-union positions as part of city-wide cost-cutting moves ordered by Mayor Rahm Emanuel, the transit agency said Monday.
The job eliminations and other expense reductions will save the CTA $15 million annually, officials said.
The CTA will save about $7.6 million in salaries and benefits—a 10 percent reduction in senior management.
Additional savings of $900,000 in labor and benefit costs will be achieved by delaying hiring for open positions that have been deemed necessary.
Cutting expenses on materials, utilities and contractual services will further reduce costs for 2011, officials said.
The 2012 CTA budget is being developed, but several short-term solutions used to balance the budget in past years will no longer be options, according to CTA president Forrest Claypool.
