4 wounded in separate South Side shootings

A teenaged boy and three men were wounded in two separate shootings Wednesday afternoon on the city's South Side, officials said.

One of the teens was listed in critical condition.

The first shooting happened about 4 p.m. on the 3400 block of West 79th Street in the Ashburn neighborhood.

Preliminary reports said two 18-year-old men were walking when a dark-colored SUV approached and someone fired shots, striking them both, police said.

One man suffered a gunshot wound to his head and was taken in critical condition to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn. The other victim suffered a graze wound to his torso, police said.

Earlier Wednesday, a 17-year-old boy and a 21-year-old man were shot in the Washington Heights neighborhood, police said.
That shooting happened shortly before 3 p.m. on the 1000 block of West 103rd Place.

Preliminary reports said the victims were walking in a group when someone approached, produced a handgun and started shooting.
The man was shot in his lower back and the teen suffered a wound to his leg. There was no information available about the victims'conditions or where they were taken for treatment.

As of 11 p.m., no one was in custody for either of the shootings. Wentworth Area and Calumet Area detectives were investigating.
