Two 18-year-old men and a 16-year-old boy face charges including robbery in an attack on two teens downtown Tuesday evening just west of Michigan Avenue, prosecutors said.
Keith Alexander and Marcus Clark, both 18, are each charged with robbery, aggravated battery and mob action. A third teen, a 16-year-old boy, also is cited in juvenile petition on charges of battery, aggravated battery, robbery and theft, authorities said.
The three are accused of participating in an attack on two teens by a group of least five youths about 8 p.m. Tuesday near Wabash andChicago avenues.
On Thursday, Cook County Criminal Court Judge Israel Desierto ordered Clark, of the 500 block of East Bowen Avenue, held in lieu of $300,000 bail and Alexander, of the 6600 block of South Peoria Street, held on $250,000 bail.
Although a witness described Tuesday’s incident as similar to last weekend’s downtown attacks in which 20 youths were arrested, police at the time would not categorize Tuesday night’s incident as mob violence.
Starting with the incidents over the weekend, 32 people have been arrested in connection with robberies and disturbances involving multiple people in the Near North District, saidChicago Police News Affairs Sgt. Antoinette Ursitti.
One of the victims in Tuesday's attack, a 16-year-old boy, told the Tribune that his wallet was snatched from behind by a group of youths, prompting him and his friend to chase them.
The 16-year-old said he tripped and fell, and the group stopped and started attacking him and his friend, who police said is 19.
Detectives were still investigating to try to locate anyone else who may have been involved in the Tuesday attack.
