The incident happened at about 6:50 p.m. at the intersection of Illinois Street and Columbus Drive. Witnesses described a woman unconscious and bleeding in the street.
The woman was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in critical condition, said Chief Joe Roccasalva, a Chicago Fire Department spokesman.
She later died, according to Chicago Police Officer Veejay Zala, citing preliminary information

Coach driver held in fatal Streeterville accident
he driver of a private tour bus that hit and killed a 26-year-old woman in the Streeterville neighborhood Tuesday was in custody this morning, Chicago police said.But no charges have been filed or citations issued yet against the 47-year-old coach driver, who did stop, they said.
The woman, identified this morning by the Cook County medical examiner's office as Justyna Palka, of the 400 block of North McClurg Court, was in a crosswalk on Columbus Drive at Illinois Street when the bus turned into the intersection, police said.
