Police are investigating an incident this afternoon on the Near North Side in which a man was fatally shot.
The shooting happened at about 5:15 p.m. in the 1500 block of North Clybourn Avenue, said Chicago Police Officer Dan O'Brien.
It was unclear if another person was involved or if the man shot himself, he added.
Details of the incident were unclear, but a neighbor who declined to have his name published said officers on scene told him a man in a nearby townhouse was dead.
The neighbor said that at about 5:15 p.m., he was folding laundry when he heard a "slight bang" that he thought was something falling in a cabinet in another home. About 15 minutes later police officers came to his door asking if he had heard anything.
As of about 7:30 p.m., the Cook County medical examiner's office had been notified of a death at the Clybourn address.
