A South Side man has been sentenced to 21 years in prison for kicking his estranged wife during a fight, causing her newborn baby to slip out of a car seat and fall to his death from a third-floor porch.
Jason Range, 22, was convicted of involuntary manslaughter, aggravated domestic battery and battery.
Prosecutors said Range was upset that his wife brought two men when she came to pick up her children at his home in the 8200 block of South Maryland Avenue two years ago.
Range slashed her with a knife and choked her before kicking her in the back as she walked out of the house while carrying 5-week-old son Jeremiah, authorities said.
The baby, unsecured in a car seat, went over a railing and suffered multiple skull fractures from the fall.
