Vance E. Baines, 38, of the 5400 block of West Washington Boulevard is charged with leaving the scene of an accident resulting in a death, according to a release from Chicago Police News Affairs.
The incident took place a little after 8 p.m. on April 1 at the intersection of West North and North Kimball avenues. The victim, identified as Robert Deters, was attempting to cross North Avenue when Baines’ westbound vehicle hit him, according to Police News Affairs Office Veejay Zala.
Deters was taken to Stroger Hospital in critical condition and was pronounced dead just before 9 p.m. April 1.
Baines is expected to appear in bond court Thursday.
