A woman and man were found fatally shot in River North in what police are calling a murder-suicide Saturday, officials said.
Josephine Martinez, 68, of the 500 block of West Superior Street, was found shot multiple times at home, according to the Cook County medical examiner's office. She was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital where she was pronounced dead at 7:20 p.m.
A man, Frank Davila, 64, was also found shot at that address, a medical examiner's spokeswoman said. He was dead on the scene.
Police initially responded to the house around 6:40 p.m. for calls of shots fired, according to police News Affaris Officer Laura Kubiak.
When officers arrived, they found the woman with multiple gunshot wounds to her body and the man with one gunshot wound to his head, Kubiak said.
The murder-suicide appears to be domestic related. The man and woman used to be married but were divorced, Kubiak said, but were still living together.
A handgun was recovered on the scene
