Emanuel picks watchdog as hiring chief
Mayor-elect Rahm Emanuel named the city's deputy inspector general to run human resources after he takes office next month.
In her current job, Soo Choi works on hiring oversight in the inspector general's office and advises the human resources department on how to draft hiring plans, policies and procedures. Now she will direct the city’s employment office.
"Soo Choi’s experience monitoring and policing the city’s hiring practices makes her an ideal candidate to lead the Department of Human Resources," Emanuel said in a statement. "During the campaign, I pledged to overhaul the city's hiring processes. Taxpayers deserve a city government that hires the best qualified candidates, not the best connected."
FROM THE BOOK "AMERICAN PHARAOH" (Richard J. Daley)
"Daley's shrewder, and ultimately more effective, strategy for blunting the machine charges against him was to wrap himself in the mantle of reform."
Taking a page right out of the old Chicago Democratic Machine playbook. Is Emanuel getting a jump start on charges of corruption, patronage, etc.? And of course the Chicago media falls right in line.
