A pair of convicted felons were ordered held on $1 million bail Wednesday for fatal beating a West Side man with a baseball bat.
Maurice Jefferson, 28, and Deutry Thompson, 27, were already in custody for the Feb. 27 attack, but charges were upgraded when the victim, Chris Williams, died from his injuries earlier this month.
Jefferson, Thompson and two other uncharged co-offenders beat Williams because Jefferson was angry with the way Williams disciplined his child, Assistant State’s Attorney Jamie Santini said.
Jefferson’s child had been living in Williams’ home, in the 4400 block of West Jackson, Santini said.
The men allegedly punched and kicked Williams and bashed his head with a bat at Williams’ residence.
Two children, a 12-year-old and 5-year-old, were at the home at the time of the attack, Santini said.
The older child called 911.
