Three people were killed and five others were injured in a series of overnight shootings on Chicago’s South and Southwest Sides.
Police said no one was in custody in any of the incidents, and investigations are underway.
The most recent fatality was Jesus Arellanos, 20, of the 2400 block of West 45th Street, who was shot about 1:44 a.m. in the alley just behind his house in the Brighton Park neighborhood on the Southwest Side, according to officials.
Arellanos suffered a gunshot wound to the abdomen and was initially taken in critical condition to John H. Stroger, Jr. Hospital of Cook County, according to a release from the Chicago Police News Affairs office.
A witness who heard shots fired also saw a person carry the man out of the alley, police said. However, when officers arrived, the victim was the only one there, police said.
Details on the other shootings:
• Christopher Young, 18, of the 7700 block of South Normal Avenue, was killed in a possible drive-by shooting early this morning in the Winneconna Parkway neighborhood on the South Side, officials said.
At 12:14 a.m., police responded to a report of a person with a gunshot wound to his chest in the 400 block of West 79th Street, according to a release from police News Affairs. Young was standing on the sidewalk when he was shot, possibly during a drive-by, the release said.
He was dead on the scene, a medical examiner's spokeswoman said.
• A Calumet City man who was critically wounded after suffering at least two gunshot wounds to the head near Washington Park on the South Side has died, police said.
Michael Lee, 23, of the 0-100 block of 163rd Place, was shot in the 5500 block of South King Drive, according to the Cook County medical examiner's office. He was pronounced dead at 11:44 p.m. at John H. Stroger, Jr. Hospital of Cook County.
Police were contacted by officials at St. Bernard Hospital and Health Care Center around 7:30 p.m. after the shooting victim arrived with the wounds to his head, police said.
• Two other men were shot and seriously wounded in the Washington Park neighborhood about 1:14 a.m. this morning, police said. A 20-year-old and 27-year-old were sitting in a car in the 5900 block of South Calumet Avenue when they were both shot in what police said may have been a drive-by shooting.
The 20-year-old suffered a gunshot wound to the abdomen and the 27-year-old was shot multiple times in the hip and abdomen. No conditions on the victims were available.
• A 28-year-old man suffered a gunshot wound to his head this morning but is expected to live, police said
The incident occurred at 2:25 a.m. in the 4700 block of South Paulina Street in the Back of the Yards neighborhood, police said. The man was found by police near the intersection of West 30th Street and South Emerald Avenue in the Bridgeport neighborhood, almost 3.5 miles away from the crime scene, police said.
The man was taken in serious condition to John H. Stroger, Jr. Hospital of Cook County. The wound appeared to be non-life threatening, police said.
• Two people were shot in separate incidents in the Englewood neighborhood on the South Side overnight, police said.
Late Saturday at 9:40 p.m., a 40-year-old man was critically shot in the 6600 block of South Justine Street, according to a release from Chicago police News Affairs.
The man was standing on the street when a male emerged from an alley and fired shots, striking the victim in the abdomen, the release said.
The man was taken in critical condition to John H. Stroger, Jr. Hospital of Cook County.
Several hours later at 12:47 a.m. Sunday, a male was shot in the chest in the 5700 block of South Bishop Street, the release said.
He was listed in stable condition at Stroger.
