3 dead, 7 injured in crash in Lawndale

Three people are dead and at least seven others were wounded in a traffic crash this morning in the Lawndale neighborhood, police said.
About 3 a.m., two vehicles collided head-on in the 1200 block of South Kostner Avenue, according to police News Affairs Offcier Amina Greer, citing preliminary information.
A 2003 Mazda sport utility vehicle was traveling north on Kostner when it swerved acorss the lane into oncoming traffic and hit a 1995 Ford Probe, according to a release from police News Affairs.
The collision caused the Mazda to flip over, injuring all ten occupants inside.
The driver of the Ford was not taken to a hospital and was the only occupant.
The Chicago Fire Dept. did not return calls.
The Cook County medical examiner's office confirmed the deaths. A 19-year-old teen boy and a woman in her 40s were among the deceased, although no further information was immediately available, said a spokeswoman for the medical examiner.
Two people were pronounced dead at John H. Stroger, Jr. Hospital of Cook County and one person was pronounced dead at Mount Sinai Hospital, according to the release.
As for the survivers, two people were listed in good condition at Loretto Hospital, two people were in unknown condition at Stroger and three people were in unknown condition at Mount Sinai, the release said.
No charges or citations had been issued as of 6 a.m. The Major Accident Investigation Unit, which investigates all major accidents, was investigating
