24-year-old man shot dead Humboldt Park neighborhood

A 24-year-old man was standing in the 4100 block of West Potomac Avenue in the Humboldt Park neighborhood at about 2:45 a.m. when someone fired shots from inside a dark car passing by.
Preliminary reports said he had an argument with another person outside a house on that block before being shot.
The man was hit in his chest and back, and he was pronounced dead after being transported to Mount Sinai Hospital.
The Cook County medical examiner's office identified him as Dwayne Wilks, of the 8300 block of South Green Street in the Gresham neighborhood.

24-year-old male shot in the leg

A little after 5 a.m. today, a 24-year-old male was shot in the leg in the 1700 block of  North Keystone Avenue in the Hermosa neighborhood on the Northwest Side, police said. He was taken to Stroger, where his condition had stabilized.

Teen girl shot in neck, 6 others hurt in shootings

A 15-year-old girl was shot in the neck and seriously wounded late Thursday, one of at least seven victims of overnight shootings.
The girl was shot about 9:05 p.m. in the Hermosa neighborhood on the West Side. She was walking on the 4100 block of West Wabansia Avenue when she heard shots and felt pain, according to police.
She was shot in the neck and taken in serious condition to Mount Sinai Hospital.

At least six others also were wounded across the city.
At 10:15 p.m. in the Trumbull Park neighborhood, a male in his teens was shot in his leg at 10524 S. Oglesby Ave., according to police News Affairs Officer Hector Alfaro.
He was taken in good condition to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn.

Later at 11:38 p.m. and only a couple of blocks away in the South Deering neighborhood, two males were shot near the intersection of East 103rd Street and South Calhoun Avenue, said Officer Ron Gaines.
One person was shot in his abdomen and transported to Advocate Christ Medical Center while the other was shot in his leg and taken to Advocate Trinity Hospital. Their ages were not immediately known.
It was not immediately known if the two shootings were related.

At 3:38 a.m., two women and a man were wounded in a possible drive-by in the 9700 block of South Luella, according to Gaines.
The two women were taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn and listed in stable condition. The man was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, also in stable condition. detectives are investigating.

Man shot on block where boy, 15, killed Monday

A man was wounded in the legs when shots rang out in the West Humboldt Park neighborhood this afternoon, officials said.
The 25-year-old man was taken to Illinois Masonic Medical Center in good condition, said Chicago Police News Affairs Officer Phil Armstrong.
The shooting happened around 2:30 p.m. on the same block where 15-year-old Jovany Diaz was shot and killed about 10 p.m. Monday while celebrating his 15th birthday.

15-year-old boy slain on his birthday

A boy celebrating his 15th birthday Monday night was shot and killed in the city's West Humboldt Park neighborhood, officials said today.
Killed was Jovany Diaz, according to the Cook County medical examiner's office.
Police said Diaz was in a front yard of a home in the 4300 block of West Hirsch Street, celebrating his birthday with a 19-year-old man thought to be a relative, when a gunman approached from across the street at about 10 p.m. and opened fire.

Diaz was struck in the chest and the 19-year-old man was struck once in the right hand, police said. Diaz, who lived on the same block where he was shot, was rushed to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 10:46 p.m., a medical examiner's spokesman said. The second wounded teen was treated at a local hospital and released.
Police had only a vague description of the gunman and of a gray or silver vehicle fleeing the scene.
No arrests were made.

Man found fatally shot in the head on West Side

A man was found shot in the head late Saturday in the West Humboldt Park neighborhood, police said.
At 10:10 p.m., police found a man 'unresponsive' with a gunshot wound to his head in the 4200 block of West Potomac Avenue, said police News Affairs Officer Ron Gaines.
Earl Smith, 24, of  the 1200 block of North Kildare Avenue, was pronounced dead on the scene, according to the Cook County medical examiner's office.

17 YR SHOT

A boy, 17, was shot on the Northwest Side in the Hermosa neighborhood.

That shooting happened on the 1900 block of North Karlov Avenue. Preliminary reports said two males walked up to the boy and shot him in the upper thigh, police said.

The youth was taken in good condition to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center.
