Off-duty police officer shot, killed in West Side convenience store

An off-duty police officer was shot and killed Thursday night during a robbery at a West Side convenience store where he worked as a security guard.
Two men walked into the M & M Quick Foods in the 1200 block of North Austin Boulevard in the Austin neighborhood about 8:30 p.m. and shot the officer, Clifton Lewis, several times with a "machine-type" pistol. They then grabbed his gun and star and fled.
Lewis, 41, an eight-year veteran assigned to the Austin District, was rushed to John H. Stroger, Jr. Hospital of Cook County, where he was pronounced dead. About 200 police officers joined Lewis' family at the hospital into the night.
Lewis was assigned to the Austin District's tactical team and his weapon wasn't recovered. Nobody is in custody

Chicago man killed at girlfriend's house on Far South Side

A 31-year-old South Side man was killed Thursday morning at his girlfriend's house in the Rosemoor neighborhood.
Two men searching for Zentonio Bolian visited his girlfriend's house on the 700 block of East 105th Street on the Far South Side about 10 a.m..
A 10-year-old child greeted them at the door and the two asked for Bolian by name.
Witnesses inside the house heard yelling and then gunshots, police said. Bolian was shot twice in the chest.

18-year-old shot

At 5:19 a.m. an 18-year-old man was sitting on a porch at a home on the 5700 block of South Sacramento Avenue when a man emerged from the corner of 58th Street and Sacramento and began yelling gang slogans at the man on the porch.
The person on the street then brandished a handgun and began shooting at the man on the porch and striking him several times in a leg. After the shooting, the man with the gun ran west on 58th Street

 27-year-old man was shot in the back about 2:00 a.m. in the 1600 block of West 59th Street

Man shot in Gresham

One man was shot Saturday night in the Gresham neighborhood, police said. At 11:30 p.m., a 20-year-old man was shot in the foot in the 7800 block of Morgan Street

Two teens shot in Englewood

Two teens were shot in the 6700 block of South Normal Boulevard in Englewood at 9:30 p.m..
A 19-year-old man was shot in the elbow and upper body and the second victim, a 16-year-old boy, was shot in the leg, police said. Both are in stable condition at Stroger Hospital.
They were standing on the sidewalk when someone opened fire from a gangway across the street

14-year-old boy shot in Gage Park

A 14-year-old boy was shot in Gage Park late Saturday afternoon, according to police.
He was walking down the 5200 block of Trumbull Avenue about 6:30 p.m. following a "verbal altercation
The boy was shot and the shooter fled on foot

Man shot in face on Far South Side

A 22-year-old man was left in serious condition when he was shot in the face Saturday afternoon on the Far South Side in the city's Roseland neighborhood.
The shooting happened shortly after 2 p.m. on the 600 block of West 111th Street.
The man was taken in serious-to-critical condition to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak

3 seriously wounded in Washington Park shooting

Three people were seriously wounded Saturday afternoon in a shooting in the Washington Park neighborhood on the city's South Side.
Chicago Fire Department paramedics responded about 1:20 p.m. to an alley in the 5600 block of South Calumet Avenue.
Three people were taken in serious-to-critical condition to John H. Stroger, Jr. Hospital of cook County, Mount Sinai Hospital and Northwestern Memorial Hospital.
A 20-year-old man was shot in the head and transported to Northwestern Memorial Hospital.
A 25-year-old man was shot in the leg and a 24-year-old man was shot in the buttocks

Man shot in the Park Manor neighborhood

A man was shot in his abdomen at about 1:30 a.m. in the 7400 block of South Evans Avenue in the Park Manor neighborhood, police said. He was found unresponsive in a gangway.
He was transported to Northwestern Hospital but wasn't cooperating with police

Male shot in Belmont Central neighborhood

A male was shot in the shoulder about 2:40 a.m. in an alley on the 2200 block of North Menard Avenue in the Belmont Central neighborhood. He was sitting in a vehicle when he was shot and is now at Loyola Hospital

Two teens were shot just before 2 a.m. near the intersection of Kedzie Avenue and 18th Street in the Lawndale neighborhood, police said.
They were standing outside a party when a fight broke out and someone started shooting, though neither of the two shot were involved in the altercation
A 14-year-old boy was shot in the leg and taken to Mount Sinai Hospital and a 17-year-old girl suffered a graze wound to the chin

20-year-old man shot dead

A 20-year-old man died after he was shot in the back and chest in the 1500 block of West 71st Street in Englewood about 2:10 a.m. on Saturday
A spokeswoman for the Cook County medical examiner's office said Trevor Williams, of the 7000 South Bishop Street, was pronounced dead at 3:13 a.m. He was shot less than two blocks from his home.

Man shot in head in South Shore neighborhood

A man was shot in the left eye and seriously wounded in the South Shore neighborhood this evening.
The man, 31, was shot about 8:34 p.m. in the 2500 block of East 75th Street.
Police said someone fired five or six shots from inside a passing vehicle, striking the man in the head. The man's older brother heard the shots, looked out their apartment window and saw that his brother had been shot
The man was in serious condition on the scene, Zala said. The victim was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in serious-to-critical condition, said Fire Department spokesman Kevin MacGregor.
He remained in critical condition at about 2 a.m

Man charged in killing of Aldi store guard found hanged in police lockup

A suspect in the fatal shooting of a guard at a Far South Side grocery store was found hanged to death in a police lockup early this morning, hours after he was charged.
Develt Bradford, 52, was found in the Area 2 lockup at 727 E. 111th Street at about 1:30 a.m., according to police and the Cook County medical examiner's office, which ruled the death a suicide.
He was in a holding cell and apparently used his sweat pants or pajama bottoms to hang himself. Bradford had been alone in the cell and had been taken out periodically for questioning. Charges were filed about 9:20 p.m.
Bradford, of the 5300 block of South Damen Avenue, was arrested Tuesday. He was charged with first-degree murder and armed robbery in connection with the Nov. 10 holdup that left 54-year-old Reginald Lanier dead and a 67-year-old woman wounded, according to Tandra Simonton, a spokeswoman for Cook County state's attorney's office.
Bradford also had been charged with two counts of armed robbery from an Oct. 28 hold-up at another Aldi store on 47th Street and Ashland Avenue, Simonton said. He had been scheduled to appear in bond court today.
Police said Bradford was one of two men who walked into the Aldi at 9017 S. Halsted St. on Nov. 10. One of them shot Lanier in the head and torso, and the other approached the cashier. The woman, a customer, was shot in the leg, authorities said. The suspects fled with an unspecified amount of cash.
Officials said both men were believed to be responsible for another robbery of an Aldi store at 47th Street and Ashland Avenue on Oct. 28. No one was hurt during that hold-up.
Bradford was connected to one of the two robberies through a fingerprint match, authorities said. He was also identified as a suspect in a photo array.
His accomplice remains at large. Police have identified him as Michael Smith, 30, of the 5300 block of South Seeley Avenue. His record include five felony drug convictions dating back to 1998.
Bradford’s criminal background includes a few drug arrests, according to Cook County court records, most notably a 1999 felony conviction for possession of a controlled substance. He was sentenced to 15 months probation for that crime

Man in serious condition after Rogers Park shooting

A 23-year-old man was hospitalized this evening after being shot on the street in the Rogers Park neighborhood.
The shooting happened at about 9 p.m. on the 7700 block of North Sheridan Road.
The victim was on the street with friends when someone came up and shot him in the back.
He was in serious condition at Saint Francis Hospital in Evanston

Man dies in West Englewood shooting

A 35-year-old man was pronounced dead after being shot Tuesday in the West Englewood neighborhood.
Gerald Fisher, of the 6600 Block of South Marshfield, was shot doors from his home, according to the Cook County medical examiner's office. He was pronounced dead Wednesday at 8:51 a.m. at Mount Sinai Hospital.
Fisher was shot in the chest, arm and elbow at 5:17 p.m. and taken to Mount Sinai Hospital where he later died

17-year-old girl shot in the face in Far South Side park

A 17-year-old girl was shot multiple times, including in the face, in an attack in a Morgan Park neighborhood park late this afternoon.
The girl was sitting near 112th Place and Ada Street in a park about 4:40 p.m. when shots were fired and she was wounded multiple times.
Ada Park is at that location. Preliminary information indicated the shooting may have been a drive-by.
The girl was taken in critical condition with a gunshot wound to the face to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn

Police: South Chicago man shoots burglary suspect with rifle

A man trying to steal a radiator and other scrap metal from the backyard of a South Chicago residence was surprised by the man living there, who shot him in the leg.
About 1:30 a.m., officers on patrol came across a shooting victim--later identified as the burglarly suspect--lying on the ground at 91st Street and Commercial Avenue with a wound to his upper left leg.
At the same time, they heard a police radio dispatch call to a theft in progress in the 3000 block of E. 91st Street, just around the corner.
The 52-year-old resident there told police he had been awakened by his security alarm system to find someone rummaging through scrap metal he had put there the day before, Kubiak said. The resident retrieved his .22 caliber rifle and fired on the backyard intruder.
The wounded man was transported by Fire Department paramedics to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn in stable condition.
The resident has a valid Firearm Owners Identification Card, Kubiak said, adding that police are still investigating the incident.

.21-year-old shot in Roseland

A 21-year-old man was shot in the right armpit and left hip just before 10 p.m. on Sunday.
He was standing in an alley on the 10800 block of South Indiana Avenue in the Roseland neighborhood when someone fired shots in his direction. He was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in serious condition.
