Man and woman shot in Chicago Lawn

The shooting happened about 11:21 p.m. on the 6200 block of South Western Avenue in the Chicago Lawn neighborhood.
Two people, a male and a female were wounded. The female victim was taken to Stroger Hospital where she was reported in stable condition. The male was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center.

15-year-old seriously wounded in Marquette Park

A 15-year-old boy was seriously wounded in a shooting in the city's Marquette Park neighborhood on the South Side.
The shooting happened about 10:00 p.m. on the 6500 block of South Campbell Avenue.
The boy was walking on the sidewalk when shots were fired and he was struck.
He was taken in serious condition to the hospital with wounds to his chest and thighs.

1 shot dead, 8 wounded in violence on South Side

The first shooting happened about 11:54 p.m. on the 500 block of East 65th Street in the city's Woodlawn neighborhood. The victim, later identified by the medical examiner's office as Marquis Strong, 26, of the 7100 block of South Yates Avenue, got into a verbal altercation with another man, police said. The second man pulled a gun, shot Yates, and then fled the scene on a bicycle.
Strong was shot in the chest and was taken to John H. Stroger Jr., Hospital of Cook County, where he was pronounced dead at 12:25 a.m.

About three minutes later, another man was shot in the city's Washington Park neighborhood.
That shooting happened on the 300 block of East 56th Street. Preliminary reports said the man was walking when he was shot in the arm. He was taken in good condition to Saint Bernard Hospital and Health Care Center.

Less than 20 minutes later, three more people were wounded in a drive-by shooting in the same neighborhood.
That shooting happened on the 5700 block of South Wabash Avenue. Preliminary reports stated an 18-year-old woman and two men, ages 18 and 21, were shot while they were sitting on a porch. Apparently, a vehicle drove by and someone inside fired shots, striking the three victims.
The woman suffered a wound to her hip and was taken in stable condition to Northwestern Memorial Hospital. The 18-year-old man was shot in both arms and was taken in good condition to Stroger Hospital. The third man, 21, suffered a graze wound to his head and was taken in good condition to the University of Chicago Hospitals.

About 1:15 a.m. a.m. this morning, two men were shot by a male gunman in the 6100 block of South Talman Avenue, according to a news release from Chicago Police News Affairs. One man, 35, was shot in the chin and abdomen and was taken in serious condition to Advocate Christ Medical Center; the other, 36, was shot in the back and is in good condition.

Shortly before 2 a.m. on the 1200 block of South Independence Boulevard, two women were shot on the city's West Side, officials said. The women were part of a group standing on the sidewalk when a male gunman fired in their direction, striking them both, police said.
A 19-year-old suffered multiple gunshot wounds to her legs. She was taken in critical condition to Mount Sinai Hospital. The other victim, 22, was shot in the forearm. She was taken in good condition to Mount Sinai.

3 wounded in separate shootings in city

Three people were wounded in separate shootings this evening on the city's South and West Sides, officials said.

The first shooting happened shortly before 5 p.m. on the 4900 block of South Wolcott Avenue in the city's Back of the Yards neighborhood.
Preliminary reports said a 35-year-old man was outside when he heard shots and felt pain. The man suffered a graze wound to his right lower back, police said. He refused medical treatment and left the scene.

About 6:10 p.m., a 19-year-old man was shot on the West Side in the city's Austin neighborhood, police said.

The victim was on the 5000 block of West Concord Place when someone stepped out of an alley and began firing shots, striking the victim, police said. The man was taken in good condition to Stroger Hospital with gunshot wounds to his buttocks.

The third shooting happened about 6:30 p.m. in the city's West Englewood neighborhood.

Preliminary reports said a 20-year-old man was shot in the arm on the 6400 block of South Bell Avenue.

Illegal Alien Landscaper killed in SW Side robbery

A landscaper was shot and killed this afternoon in an apparent armed robbery in the Marquette Park neighborhood on the Southwest Side, police said.
Killed was Heriberto Barajas, 21, of the 3500 block of West 78th Street, according to the Cook County medical examiner's office.
Barajas was leveling soil in a backyard in the 6400 block of South Talman Avenue at about 1:45 p.m. when he was attacked by four men, police said, citing preliminary reports.

Neighbor Mae Horne said she was watching TV when she heard the gunshots outside, ran to her window and saw the man running and then collapse by a tree in her front yard.

“I was scared,” said Horne, 74, who called 911. “When I saw him fall I knew something was wrong, I knew something was wrong.”

The four tried to rob the man and shot him, police spokesman John Mirabelli said. The robbers were wearing dark clothing and hooded sweatshirts.

Horne said she had seen the landscaper earlier in the day working on her neighbor’s yard, but hadn’t thought much more about him.

“This is the second time we’ve had something like this around here,” Horne said. About two months ago, Horne said a bullet shattered the glass on her front door.

A law enforcement source said there has been of pattern of armed robberies to contractors in the area. But it was not known whether the shooting is linked.

6 wounded in West, South Side violence

At least six people, including three teenagers, were shot in various incidents in the West and South sides late Monday afternoon and evening, according to police.
an 18-year-old man was shot in the back in Marquette Park. The man was riding his bike on the 2700 block of West 65th Street when an unknown offender produced a gun and fired, police said. He was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn in stable condition, police said.
