Police shoot, wound man in Englewood neighborhood

Chicago police shot and wounded a man following what began as a traffic stop and ended with the man pointing a handgun at officers.
No officers were injured in the shooting that occurred at about 12:20 a.m. in the 1200 block of West 58th Street.
Englewood police district stopped the vehicle in the 5800 block of South Elizabeth Street to conduct field interviews.
As police were removing the four men from the vehicle in order to search them, one of the men bolted and ran east, said police and Pat Camden, a spokesman for the Fraternal Order of Police.
After the officers broadcast the man's description over police radio, two responding officers spotted a man fitting the description a short time later near 58th Street and Racine Avenue.
When those officers got out of their vehicle and approached, the man turned away with a handgun in his hand, Camden said. When the 33-year-old man pointed the gun in the officers' direction, one of the officers fired, striking the man in his left side.
The man was taken to Stroger Hospital in critical condition.
Police said they recovered a handgun at the scene.

44 year old man shot on Halsted St.

44-year-old man was wounded this morning in a shooting in the city's Englewood neighborhood on the South Side. About 12:12 a.m., officers and paramedics responded to the 5700 block of  South Halsted Street and discovered a man with gunshot wounds to his abdomen and wrist.
The man was standing on the sidewalk when he heard shots and realized he had been shot. The man was taken in fair condition to Northwestern Memorial Hospital.

38 YEAR OLD SHOT

At 12:01 a.m. in the 5800 block of South Peoria Street, a 38-year-old man suffered a gunshot wound to the abdomen after being shot by an unknown assailant, police said. The victim was taken in serious condition to Stroger hospital.

20 YEAR OLD SHOT

at 10:25 p.m. in the Englewood neighborhood, a 20-year-old man was sitting on a porch in the 5700 block of South Carpenter Street when four attackers approached on foot and one fired a gun, striking him in the hip, according to a news release.

Gang member slain in Englewood neighborhood

A 25-year-old man who police said was a member of the Gangster Disciples gang was found shot to death this morning in an alley in the Englewood neighborhood on the South Side.
The shooting happened about 1:50 a.m. in an alley on the 5600 block of South May Street, said Police News Affairs Officer Laura Kubiak.  Arriving police officers found the victim unresponsive with a gunshot wound to his head. Witnesses reported hearing shots and a vehicle speeding away.
The dead man was identified by the Cook County medical examiner's office as Tristen Reese, of the 500 block of East 87th Street.

3 wounded in overnight shootings # 3

Shortly before midnight in the Englewood neighborhood, a 29-year-old man, was shot in his foot on the 6200 block of South Carpenter Street, police said.

The victim told police he was standing on the corner when an unknown gunman approached and shot him.

The man was taken in good condition to Holy Cross Hospital.
