This morning, Alfredo Cuellar was carrying ice into the market near the corner of Marquette Avenue and 79th Street when he was killed by a stray bullet from a gang fight that ripped through the wall of the store and hit him in the chest.
A witness said two teens ran into his shop around 10:30 a.m., apparently being chased by people in an SUV on 79th Street. The teens in the shop were throwing gang signs to the people in the SUV, the employee said.
The teens ran outside and then into the meat market, and those in the SUV opened fire.
Cuellar was returning with bags of ice for the chicken cooler when he was struck by the stray bullet.
Cuellar's family -- a wife and four children -- still live in Cuernavaca, Mexico.
