Kamal Smith, 20, appeared in bond court today, where he was ordered held in lieu of $1 million bail.
Prosecutors said that in mid-April, Smith and another man were at the home of the victim, Deshawn Davis, playing video games and smoking marijuana when Davis, 20, showed the two other men bank envelopes filled with cash.
Smith and the other man later devised a plan to burglarize Davis' apartment to take his television set and the money, prosecutors said. They decided that Smith should not participate in the burglary because he had stolen from Davis’ home before and "it wouldn't be smart to hit the same place twice,".
Davis was at home on April 24 when two men went to his apartment in the 7900 block of South Greenwood Avenue and shot him. They then left with a video game system, a shotgun and a laptop.
Davis' mother later went to the home and found him, shot in the head and arm and face-down in a pool of blood
