A 26-year-old man was fatally shot this morning on the same Pill Hill neighborhood street where a teenager was shot and wounded the day before, police said.
Killed was Christopher Hale Jr., of the 9300 block of South Merrill Avenue, according to the Cook County medical examiner's office.
Police officers responding to a "shots fired" call on the 2000 block of East 93rd Street found the victim unresponsive with a gunshot wound to the back at about 9 a.m., police spokesman Officer Phil Armstrong said.
Hale was rushed to nearby Advocate Trinity Hospital, where he was pronounced dead nearly an hour later, a medical examiner's spokesman said. An autopsy is scheduled for Friday.
Hale was shot on the same block where a 17-year-old boy standing with friends was grazed by a bullet just after 6 p.m. Wednesday, police said.
In that shooting, the teen was standing on the block when two vehicles approached, according to a preliminary police report The teen then heard shots and felt pain, having sustained a graze wound to the right forearm, police said. The teen was taken to Trinity, where he was treated in good condition.
Police wouldn't speculate whether the shootings were related, or offer a motive. Calumet Area detectives are investigating both shootings.
