Parolee shot dead in West Englewood neighborhood

A 32-year-old parolee identified by the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office as 32-year-old Herschel Phillips was killed in a hail of gunfire on a front porch in the West Englewood neighborhood.
The drive-by shooting happened at about 4:50 p.m. Tuesday in the 6600 block of South Oakley Avenue.
Witnesses told police the victim was sitting on a porch when a gunman in an blue older model Buick pulled up and fired as many as 20 shots before fleeing the scene.
The victim, who was struck twice in the chest was rushed to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where he was pronounced dead.
