The fourth of five youths to be sentenced in the infamous videotaped beating death of Fenger High School sophomore Derrion Albert was given 32 years in prison today.
As Cook County Judge Nicholas Ford handed down the sentence, Eugene Riley, 20, looked back toward the courtroom gallery and nodded when his mother, Sherry Smith, kissed her index finger and held it up.
Riley was convicted by a jury in May of first-degree murder for swinging a large board twice at Albert, who prosecutors said was semi-conscious and lying defenseless on the street. The grainy videotape of the September 2009 melee was shown around the world and came to symbolize youth violence in Chicago.
