Chicago police shot and killed one man and wounded two others this morning
when a team of burglars tried to run over the Officers with a stolen auto crashing through a steel door and
striking a Police Officer in the city's Little
Village neighborhood.
No officers were
wounded in the police-involved shooting that occurred between 2:30 a.m. and
2:45 a.m. in the 2400 block of South Western Avenue.
The chaotic
incident began with Ogden District officers responding to a burglary-in-progress
call at an electronics store on Western Avenue.
After spotting three men inside, officers surrounded the
business, announced their office and knocked on the doors, trying to coax the
men to turn themselves in.
Instead, the men got into a car
belonging to the store's owner that was parked inside the business and plowed
through a metal overhead door.
The swerving vehicle struck
one officer and struck a squad car before racing toward several officers. Those officers opened fire on the speeding vehicle.
One
of the men inside the car was dead at the scene. The other two were
taken to Stroger
Hospital for their wounds. Their exact conditions weren't known.
The
injured officer was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital to be treated for non-serious
bruises and contusions.
Police recovered a cache of stolen electronics and other goods
inside the stolen getaway car.
