Police warn of massive amounts of robberies on Chicago's "L" lines

Chicago Police detectives are appealing for the public’s help in finding those responsible for several series of robberies on the West Side recently, including attacks on CTA 'L' riders.
The most recent robbbery took place last week.
Detectives warned of two sets of robberies near West Side “L” stops.
In the first, on or near the Green Line’s Kedzie Avenue stop, a man has been robbing people either by brandishing a knife or just grabbing their belongings, according to a police alert.
The robber has been coming up to people on the “L” or while they were going into or out of the Kedzie “L” stop, according to the alert. In some cases, he has stolen iPhones at knifepoint and in others grabbed them and run off.
The robberies took place between July 11 and Aug. 1, police said. Most of the robberies have taken place in the evening between 7:50 p.m. and 11:30 p.m., although one on July 15 happened at 7:45 a.m.
The robber is described as a black man between 18 and 25 years old, standing between 5-foot-9 and 6-foot-2 and weighing between 160 and 200 pounds. His hair is braided and he has a medium to dark complexion. Police did not release a description of the clothing he was last seen wearing.
In the second series of robberies at or near an “L” stop, detectives warned of a series of robberies that have taken place at the Blue Line “L” stop and the bus stop at 530 S. Pulaski Road.
The robberies took place July 27 at 6:45 p.m., July 31 at 1:15 p.m. and Aug. 1 at 6 p.m., police said.
The robbers went up to people both while they were on the train and after they have left the train and were waiting at the bus stop in front of the “L” station. The robbers then grabbed property, including iPhones, and fled.
Police did not release detailed descriptions of individual robbers, who they described as teenagers or young men between 13 and 20 years old.
In a third set of robberies, two men used handguns to rob victims in the 4000 to 4100 blocks of West Madison Street on July 12 at 1:10 a.m. and July 31 at 1:20 a.m. Police did not give detailed descriptions of the individual suspects, who were said to be men between 19 and 30 years old.
Police also issued an alert regarding robberies on Madison Street and Washington Boulevard between 2500 west and 2800 west that took place between July 5 and Aug. 3. One or two men have come up to victims on the street and taken cell phones and cash, either in strongarm robberies or after threatening the victims with a handgun.
Police did not give detailed desciptions of the individual robbers.
Finally, detectives issued an alert regarding recent robberies in the 400 to 600 blocks of South Western Avenue. The dates of the armed robberies were not specified, but the alert said the three robberies have taken place between 9:30 p.m. and 11:50 p.m. In all the robberies, several young men or teenagers have come up to victims and robbed them at gunpoint,according to the alert.
Police described the robbers as between 16 and 25 years old, but did not describe any individual suspects.
