A 16-year-old boy was critically injured in a Sunday afternoon shooting several blocks from Chicago police critically wounded a gun-wielding man at a South Side park, authorities said.
The unidentified teen was hit in the chest with gunfire at about 6:40 p.m. in the 7900 block of South Ellis, Chicago police said.
The boy was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in critical condition, according to fire department officials.
Police didn't offer a motive for the shooting, but said no arrests had been made.
The shooting occurred about 15 minutes after police shot and wounded a gun-wielding man who fired shots at a Father's Day celebration at Grand Crossing Park.
A police spokesman said it was unlikely that the shootings, which occurred three blocks apart, were related.
