The officer injured his hand during the scuffle but no shots were fired.
Elraheem Wilkins, of the 1500 block of North Rockwell Street, was charged with residential burglary, aggravated battery to police, resisting arrest and home invasion, all of which are felonies.
incident happened shortly before 10 a.m. Thursday on Beach Avenue in the Wicker Park neighborhood.
The officer woke to hear someone walking around in his kitchen and living room area. Knowing no one else was home, he got up and then saw someone carrying his laptop and walking toward a back door in the kitchen.
The officer yelled: “Stop!” and the two men scuffled as Wilkins tried to leave the house.
Wilkins suffered minor injuries and the officer’s right hand was broken during the incident, but the officer was able to get him under control
