A motorist driving the wrong way on the Bishop Ford Freeway this morning
struck another vehicle, killing one person.
State police received several calls about a vehicle traveling south
in the northbound lanes just before the 4:30 a.m. collision near 122nd Street.
Early reports indicated that the wrong-way driver struck another vehicle,
killing that driver. State troopers remained at
the scene nearly two hours later still trying to iron out details
State troopers on the scene of the fatal wreck were then alerted to another
motorist driving the wrong way several miles south. A state trooper was able to
stop that driver near 130th Street without incident. This is at least the sixth wrong way expressway fatal accident in the Chicago area this year.
UPDATE:
The 24-year-old driver's black 1998 Chevy Malibu hit a black 2003 Honda Accord
driven by Ronnie Head, who then careened into a tanker truck. The Accord came to rest in the left lane of the
freeway.
State police said alcohol was a factor in the crash. No
charges had been filed as of 9:30 a.m..
