Scalding death of infant investigated for abuse

The case of a 6-month-old girl who died early this morning after being scalded by hot water, is being investigated by the Department of Children and Family Services.
Christina Thomas, of the 700 block of West 76th Street in the Gresham neighborhood, died at 1 a.m. at Loyola Medical Center, 11 days after she suffered burns over 30 percent of her body, according to the Cook County medical examiner's office.
DCFS is investigating an allegation of abuse against the girl's mother.
Investigators were told the girl was put into a bathtub filled with scalding water. She suffered second-degree burns on the lower half of her body, a source with knowledge of the investigation said.
